Uh Oh - Sushi and Samonella Used in the Same Sentence? Recent Outbreak Has Sushi Lovers On Edge

To Sushi, Or Not To Sushi?

I love sushi…but I wouldn’t necessarily agree to suffer 72-hour internal combustion from spicy tuna rolls.  On April 5 2012, we heard that up to 90 people got sick and 7 were hospitalized from a unique form of Salmonella.  It hasn’t been confirmed to be sushi for sure, but spicy tuna rolls are definitely a common denominator.

What would you do?

“That sushi was not good.”

My husband and I are usually proud residents of Riverdale, Bronx.  It’s as if we’ve discovered a hidden gem…one that delightfully rests beside the Hudson River within a serene bucolic setting.  One that is affordable and close enough to, yet far enough from the commotion of Manhattan.  One that has just enough restaurants to choose whatever food genre you desire.  And yes, it even has all-you-can-eat-sushi…

I know, you’re thinking, “What a place!”.  And by all means, please come visit us any time.  Take the 1 train to 238th street and I’ll meet you there.  You might want to take pictures at Wave Hill, play golf at Van Cortland Park, dine at Salvatore’s on Riverdale Avenue, but you might not want to eat at Nagoya Sushi on Mosholu.

Ugh, I can’t believe I wrote that, I love the staff there. They remember us and greet us warmly.  However, I feel that it’s only fair to be honest and real about the places we visit and review. The last few times we ate there, the sushi wasn’t fresh.  In fact, my husband was there recently and said the spicy salmon was rancid and he had intestinal issues for 24 hours.  Anyway, I am super sad our hey day at Nagoya has come to an end for now.

On a lighter note, my hubby did tell me a funny story about his last dining experience at Nagoya…or should I say he discovered another hidden gem?  When the bill came, his friend looked up at him and said, “I got ya next time”.  I am so going to use that next time I go out to eat with my friends!!!
